Hormone Replacement Therapy

Does life have you down?

Painful or irregular periods? Infertility? Fibrocystic breasts or uterine fibroids? Hot flashes? Fatigue? Irritability? Overly emotional feelings or lack of emotion? Insomnia or disturbed sleep? Headaches? PMS? Low sex drive or loss of sensation? Mood swings? Night sweats? Poor concentration/memory lapses? Depression? Osteoporosis? Vaginal dryness/vaginal thinning? Loss of muscle mass? Just aren’t feeling up to your usual vigor?

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) may be just what you need. Hormone replacement therapy encompasses the addition of synthetic or organic exogenous hormones to support the body’s natural supply and function of hormones. Hormones that can be replaced include Estrogens, Progesterone, Testosterone, DHEA, Human Growth Hormone, Insulin, Pregnenolone, and Cortisol. HRT can alleviate the symptoms caused by the natural decrease in production of hormones by the body. It can give protective benefits that were originally provided by the naturally occurring hormones. and the use of BHRT can help reestablish a hormonal balance. A controversial issue, hormone replacement therapy, when done correctly, is a very positive and beneficial experience.

Why Bio-Identical Hormones?

Bio-identical hormones have a molecular structure identical to hormones that are naturally occurring in the body. They are used in medicine to replace natural hormones that have declined due to aging, disease, allergies, or surgery. Synthetic hormones such as Estrace, Premarin, Prempro, Progestins, and Prenisolone do not match the chemical structures of the body perfectly. Researchers have long held the belief that there are significant differences between bio-identical and synthetic hormone preparations. The structure of the hormone, not the source, is the key. Bio-identical hormones are chemically processed from precursors found in wild yams or soy plants, but they are identical to the hormones produced by the human body. Bio-identical hormones can follow normal metabolic pathways, which allows the body to produce the essential active metabolites that help the body to function normally. Major studies done on HRT did not include BHRT. There are many smaller studies that prove the efficacy and benefit of BHRT.
